EARTH HOUR
January 28, 2008, 9:41 pm

  1. We invite every school in the world to join us on March 29th and turn off as much electricity as possible. At AIS-R we will be turning off as many lights, projectors, computers, coffee pots, photocopiers (and the list goes on) as possible.  We will teach our students the importance of this issue and how we are all connected when it comes to Global Warming.
  2. View the Earth Hour video link and mission statement and you will understand why we are doing this. Please get involved!

We share this world, so let us all pause on March 29 and try to reduce global warming even if it was for an hour only.

It is really through students that the world will become educated on this important cause. I celebrate the TWAC committee at AIS-R for this great initiative.

We have involved our school with your invitation and are taking positive steps to reduce our own electricity consumption and footprint on this date. Our 460 elementary students and 100 staff will join you in making a difference. Thanks for caring and for giving us a part in saving the planet!

We just finished Earth Hour. The bathrooms were dark, but it was fun. We saved energy, and we are happy we gave the Earth a chance today. Earth Hour ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Dear TWAC, Thank you for all the sustainable and renewable energy that you put into Earth Hour. It was great to participate in this global project. Eat lower on the food chain and have a great day.

Earth Hour was a great idea! Hope we can do this every year & practice this awareness in our daily lives.

I loved being in the library yesterday, with all the students on the computers and printing off pages, and announcing “two minutes until all the power goes off!” The frantically tried to finish what they were doing, but were completely cooperative when the lights began to dim. Even the guy who asked to photocopy something after the power had gone out “got it” when I looked at him blankly. We have so much natural light in here that I kept half the lights off all day. Thanks for initiating Earth Hour here.

   Trish McNair 03.29.08 @ 9:33 pm

I say it was a very good spark . This should continue and maybe do it once a month. The sun is abundant here. I wonder how much energy was saved yesterday by this contribution?

Here in New Delhi we made an announcement about Earth Hour at our weekly Wednesday assembly and the Roots and Shoots class did a skit about it to help get people involved. They also placed posters around the school. A number of students participated here. Our school is also promoting and reinforcing the idea of making sure all lights and equipment is turned off whenever not in use. This is a good beginning. Additionally, and as an aside, the school here is moving toward the use of no plastic in the cafeteria– that includes water bottles. Students will be encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles.

I spent the time without power working on my battery operated computer? I’m thinking this could be a weekly electricity “fast”. Maybe fasting for the modern age could include not only food, but electricity!
